Mount Juliet High School BEARS Mountain Bike Team has been created!

This blog site was created to post up information about the newly started Bears Mountain Bike Team.  This team is an independent team sport from the high school and is sanctioned by the Tennessee High School Cycling League, a NICA League.  
NICA is the National Interscholastic Cycling Association.  The Tennessee High School Cycling League was started last year.  Three Mt. Juliet HS students and one Wilson Central student participated in the 4 race season last year under a composite team format for Wilson County.

Our home trails include Shutes Branch MTB Trail in north west Wilson Co., Lock 4 Park in Gallatin, Long Hunter"s Bryant Grove MTB Trail, and the new Cane Ridge MTB Trail in southern Davidson Co.

We try to have between two to three group rides every week to help the riders get into shape for the races shown below.  Riders are encouraged to get additional riding in when they can.

Tuesday and Thursday at 5 to 6 pm at Shutes Branch
Saturday mornings at Shutes, Lock 4, or Cane Ridge TBA

There will be 4 races this year.  Current schedule:
Race 1: August 10 | AEDC, Tullahoma
Race 2: Sept 21 | Herb Parsons, Memphis
Race 3: October 12 |  Lock 4, Gallatin
Race 4: November 2 | Sewanee

To become a member of the team, you will need to contact the team's head coach - Steve Capps.   You will be sent an invitation to join the Pit Zone via the Tennessee NICA web site.  Here you will sign on, fill out some information, print/sign/mail a waiver form to become a member.  You will also pay the required fees through the Pit Zone.  As of this time, there are no dues or fees to join the Bears MTB Team.

To become an adult volunteer, you will also contact Coach Capps and you will receive an invitation through the pit zone.  Because kids safety is so important, all adult volunteers must take a background check prior to being allowed to be a volunteer.  We encourage all parents to become registered volunteers.
